What NBN Connection Box do you have?
Use the images below to identify the type of NBN Connection Box you have at your home or business. The type of Connection Box will help identify what NBN Technology you are using.
Setup your NBN Connection Box
Select a technology below for information about what you need to do on the day that your service is activated. Please contact Technical Support if you need assistance.
On the day that your service is activated:
- An NBN connection box and your NBN compatible Ethernet router will need to be connected to a suitable outlet inside your premises.
- All other devices must be physically unplugged from internal wiring and remain unplugged (eg. telephone handsets, modems & alarm diallers).
- If your premises has had an NBN service connected previously you may already have an NBN connection box installed. You will need a connection box for each NBN service.
- Your location may be eligible for a self-installation which means you can connect the equipment at a time that suits you, instead of waiting for a technician.
- If your location is eligible for a self-installation the NBN connection box and your new Ethernet router (if ordered from OntheNet) will be sent to you with installation instructions. Our Support Team can also assist you over the phone.
- If your location is not eligible for a self-installation an NBN installer will come to your premises to install the connection box. You will need to connect your Ethernet router to the connection box before you can use the service. Our Support Team can assist you over the phone.

What is a suitable outlet?
- You must have a telephone wall socket with two power sockets nearby.
- If you have more than one line at your premises you’ll need to make sure you locate a wall socket that connects to the line being used to deliver the NBN service.
- One power socket is needed for the NBN connection box and the other is to power your Ethernet router. If more reach is needed, a power board or a power extension cord may be used rather than a long telephone cable, as long telephone cables may affect internet speed.
- If you don’t have a suitable outlet available you’ll need to arrange to have one installed.

What is a suitable outlet?
- You must have a cable wall outlet with two power sockets nearby.
- One power socket is needed for the NBN connection box and the other is to power your Ethernet router. If more reach is needed, a power board or a power extension cord may be used rather than a long Coaxial or Ethernet cable, as long cables may affect internet speed.
- If you don’t have a suitable outlet available you’ll need to arrange to have one installed.
Your cable outlet may look like one of these and may be branded with logos of other network owners.
